Oklahoma Senate battle over Devere military bill and graft remarks

Senator Eck E Brook of Muskogee clashed with Senator Clarence Davis of Bristow over a speech on the Deverle military bill, a sergeant at arms stopping the clash. General Frank Canton appeared in the chamber triggering a sharp attack by Senator Hatchett on lobbyists as the bill moved to a third reading with reduced appropriations including an adjutant general salary cut to 1800 dollars and maintenance set at 15000 dollars yearly. Blair and Brook pressed for a second militia regiment with six companies per side, a plan defeated after Canton noted Oklahoma had already mustered four companies and the remainder would come from the Indian Territory side. The brigade concept limited to one regiment and restricted adjutant general aides.
