Large scale Boll Weevil Control Experiment Planned
A major government trial to eradicate boll weevils without DDT or strong pesticides starts this summer in Mississippi and nearby areas of Alabama and Louisiana. The two year program uses nonpersistent chemicals and sterile male releases to cut weevil numbers, aiming to reduce insecticide use and save cotton farmers about 275 million dollars annually.

Vanoss FFA member earns State Farmer Degree
Danny Stone 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Stone, earned the State Farmer Degree at the Oklahoma FFA Convention held April 22 23 in Stillwater. He was among 339 Oklahoma FFA boys qualifying for the degree, the highest honor from the State FFA Association for outstanding vocational agriculture work. The 1972 honorees were guests at the 17th Annual Genparty Honor Dinner on April 22. Jim Beard of South Beggs appeared at the convention on the Oklahoma State University campus.

Traffic Jury to Hear Ward DWI Case
Tulsa AP reports a six man traffic court jury was to reconvene in the misdemeanor case of Rogers County Sheriff Amos Ward charged with driving while intoxicated. Six state witnesses testified that Ward appeared intoxicated when his car collided near Collins lye on March 28. A State Crime Bureau chemist said blood samples exceeded the legal limit for driving.

STILLWATER Oklahoma State University researchers partner with forestry interests to test using wood waste as cattle roughage. Dr Ronald Johnson notes lignin in hard wood hinders digestion though cellulose is digestible.
