Winners Listed For Annual 4-H Clothing Contest Held Tues

The OSU Extension Center hosted the annual 4-H Boys Appropriate Clothing and 4-H Girls Dress Revue on April 15 with 179 boys entries and 274 girls entries. Cassie Coffer Ada and Carol Reeves McLish shared junior and reserve. Janice LaCrone Stonewall won senior champion. Kathy Bennett McLish reserve.

County Areas Get Rain By The Bucketfuls

The rain drenched the county with 2.10 inches in Ada and 5.83 inches in Roff, with unofficial totals up to 10 inches. Flooding caused street floods, a police car hydroplaned and stalled, and a bridge northwest of Roff washed out as Sandy Creek rose. Eastern streams ran full while Stratford saw about three inches.

Farm Bill Returns To Committee In Oklahoma

Oklahoma lawmakers resumed debate on corporate farming after the state Supreme Court allowed it. A Senate House Conference Committee moved to two bills: one to ban corporate farming except for religious educational and charitable groups, the other to permit family type corporations up to 7500 acres. Rep. Ferrell led the push for family corporate farming and opposed leasing prohibitions and poultry/feed exclusions. The House also sent to the governor measures restricting marriage ceremony fees and boosting teacher tenure protections.

Three Ada streets see third month accidents total rise

Three traffic crashes in Ada on Wednesday increased April’s count to 16, compared with 11 in the same period last year. Incidents involved Riley Young Sr., Helen Love, and Robert Bottoms. charges included failure to yield, following too close, and running a red light. Nadine Fleming and Jan Akin among others were treated or charged, while David Redman was fined for disturbance by drunkenness.

GNP Climbs but Rise Slower in 1969 First Quarter

Washington AP reports the gross national product rose to an annual rate of 903.4 billion in Q1 1969, up 1.25 percent from the prior quarter. Inflation colored the gain as real output grew only 0.75 percent, with prices lifting the overall figure.

Sirhan Bishara Sirhan Convicted in Kennedy Slaying

In Los Angeles AP reports Sirhan Bishara Sirhan was found guilty of first degree murder in the assassination of Senator Robert Kennedy. The verdict makes him eligible for the death penalty in the gas chamber, with jurors to decide later on his punishment. The teen defendant showed emotion at the ruling.
