Bombing of two Democratic clubs on the Chicago North Side sparks a violent election scene. Police investigate the attack as citizens react to the unrest and rising clashes surrounding the political process.
Chaos marked Chicago mayoralty election day with bombings at two Democratic clubs and heavy gunfire near polling places. Vincent Drucci was killed by a detective after arrest. a roadster gang fired on a polling site, wounding none, as detectives chased the vehicle.
H. Clay Stephens, chairman of the county commissioners, made a public statement promising full truth forthcoming as ouster proceedings by Frd Hansen and criminal charges initiated by J. W. Dean proceed. Stephens was released on $11,000 bond and watchers expect further actions by April 8 when a suspension hearing is set. preliminary hearings meanwhile aim to resolve related allegations.
B W Weems expects the Roff county literary meet to attract about 500 contestants with broad county participation. Ada high school will be well represented, and finals plus musical events are set for Friday night in the 800 seat auditorium. Mr Weems heads the event in Roff.
Ada school board set next year’s budget for city schools at 107500, about 10000 above the current year. The levy may rise to about nine mills from 7.4. No election date was set. Washington April 4 The agriculture department estimates boll weevils hibernating through winter will have higher survival than usual due to mild temperatures across the cotton belt. The report notes that lower weevil entry into hibernation last fall may offset gains, making spring infestations unusually dependent on last autumn conditions in each locality.
L. Stock ton was jailed in Seminole county on murder charges after the fatal stabbing of 30 year old oil field worker Harry Shepherd at a Seminole dance hall. Witnesses said no quarrel preceded the attack and motive remains unclear. Shepherd died from a stomach wound inflicted with a long pocket knife.
Work has begun on a new 50000 dollar Baptist church building in Seminole. The old house of worship, once neighbor to business blocks, was engulfed by the oil boom and sold after years of use by the congregation.
