New Hunting Area Opens Along Lake Texoma

Oklahoma wildlife officials announce a new 20 000 acre hunting area along Lake Texoma with 25 year license from the Army Corps of Engineers. The land is split into three zones across Johnston Love and Marshall counties.

East Central student teachers begin eight week Oklahoma placements

Nearly 200 East Central students start eight week student teaching across Oklahoma schools. Participants work in ADA, Shawnee, Wynnewood, Ardmore and more under instructors, with some in two schools.

Oklahoma welcomed as home by new East Central State College president-designate

Dr. Stanley P. Wagner, named president designate of East Central State College after retirement of Dr. Charles F. Spencer, praises Oklahoma as a great place to live. A Pennsylvanian by birth, he previously served as assistant chancellor for curriculum at Minnesota state colleges and taught at Oklahoma City University. He traveled Oklahoma prior to his appointment and notes Ada shares in the region’s advantages, highlighting outdoor living and clean air.

Gun Control Repeal Favored By Sooners

Washington Rep. Tom Steed introduces a House measure seeking repeal of the Gun Control Act of 1968 and the restoration of prior laws. Ed Edmondson and Carl Albert join Steed in the Oklahoma delegation pushing immediate reenactment of the Federal Firearms Act and related tax code changes. All Oklahoma members oppose the 1968 act.

Ada Motel Complex Nears Completion On Cradduck Road

Ada partners Melvin Chilcoat and Weldon Killian prepare a large Holiday Motel complex on Cradduck Road SH 399. The initial 35 units form a U shape, with 465 feet of frontage expanding to 665 feet, plus a cafe for 60 and 100-seat serving area, a pool, and a manager at the end arm. Construction began in October.

Plan For The Mini Vacation In Oklahoma

Assistant Wildlife Director Farrell Copelin promotes mini vacations for Oklahoma outdoorsmen. He urges starting with facilities closest to home and notes many reservoirs expanding vacation opportunities into backyards. He recommends a three day trip and camping as a budget friendly option across recreation areas statewide.

Ada Residence Hit By Blaze

The residence of Betty Mc Alester at 607 W Main was severely damaged by fire Sunday morning. Chief Landrith said the blaze started in a bedroom and caused extensive damage to the bedroom living room and kitchen. The cause is undetermined. No one was home at the time. The house is owned by J D Malone.
