Pontotoc County ASC Chairman urges farmers to observe completion reporting dates for REAP practices to secure continued cost sharing. Extensions may be requested with reasons before the reporting deadline to safeguard funds and avoid reallocations.
Tickets go on sale April 1 for the 11th annual Wrangler Awards at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Center. The black tie ceremony starts at 2 pm with 2871 Wranglers to honor top western performers, producers, authors and publishers. Recipients will be announced April 4, trophies replica of The Night Herder bronze. Reservations: Esther Long, Cowboy Hall of Fame, $25.
The Metropolitan Area Planning and Zoning Commission has rescheduled its adjourned meeting due to lack of a quorum. The 7:30 p.m. session at City Hall will review county commission requests on rezoning Pi Kappa Alpha, area west of Pickett, A7 to A2 zoning, Kenneth Johnson, two mobile homes on one parcel, and Don Meeks two houses.
The 1971 4H Dairy Contest held on March 26 at the OSU Extension Center featured 57 entrants, with 45 presenting talks and demonstrations. Awards were given to the top three in each division, sponsored by the 200 Club of Ada Oklahoma, naming Junior Posters winner Lynda Wingard Latta and others, Senior Posters winner Sherry Hatch Roff among the top finishers, plus junior girls demonstrations led by Julie Hall.
An assistant state attorney general will be in Ada Friday to assist the grand jury in its inquiry into county government. District Attorney Gordon Melson has aided the jury, which is in its third week. Judge Lee R. West warned jurors against outside discussions of their work as 10 men and two women continue daily sessions since March 13. no new subpoenas were issued Wednesday.
Oklahoma City report notes that IRS can compute income tax for more taxpayers than in prior years. Clyde L. Bicker says individuals with up to 20000 dollars in income from wages, tips, dividends, interest, pensions, and annuities who do not itemize can have tax computed by IRS after filing. Retirement income credit also possible if criteria met. A minimum Schedule RB filing is required.
David A. Hamill, administrator of the Rural Electrification Administration, named featured speaker for Western Farmers Electric annual meeting to be held April 9 in Anadarko. Hamill, a Coloradan, has served as REA administrator under Eisenhower and Nixon, with a background in cattle feeding and farming along with leadership roles in Colorado state government.
Criswell and Smith Funeral Homes will stop ambulance operations in Ada and surrounding area effective Aug. 1. They notified Ada City Council, Valley View administrator Celeste Kimler, and County Commissioners Chair Rae Thompson. Officials hope a four month pause prompts creation of substitute service with city, hospital and county involvement.
Odis Elmo Roberts, 71, of 722 West 12th, died early Thursday in a house fire. His wife Callie was severely burned. she remained in poor condition at Valley View Hospital. Firefighters battled the blaze, but Roberts, who used a wheelchair, could not be saved. Services set for Saturday at Criswell Funeral Home with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Navy Petty Officer First Class Michael McCarty son of Mr and Mrs M W Mc Carty Route Ada was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal while serving aboard the guided missile light cruiser USS Little Rock.
