Yesterday marked the final day for party petition filings with Socialists submitting their pre-nominated ticket and Democrats filing in droves. A single Republican, W. C. Cummings, announced plans to run for county office.
W. H. Nettles has entered the race for representative subject to Democratic voters. His name appears in the announcement column of this issue and a fuller note on his candidacy will follow next week.
Mrs Carl Stanford and her family hosted a visiting hero at their home yesterday, sharing a moment of pride during the guest's stay.
Pontotoc County reports totals for personal property and real estate with items listed by category. The grand total property value is 7 469 760 with real estate 2 448 085 in land and 2 008 680 in town lots, plus $3 000 000 additional from public service corporations planned.
Pontotoc county election board announces changes to voting precincts. Black Rock box discontinued and Steadman box created. Union Valley precinct formed from Owl Creek and other sections. Chester precinct discontinued with voters voting at Roff. Lawrence precinct created from Knox sections. Voting locations updated for Allen Frisco and Franks precincts.
Coffeyville Kansas boosters arrived in Ada at eleven o clock. They were greeted by Ada citizens at Main and Broadway and welcomed with a city address. Fred Benefield, former state senator, replied briefly before tours along 12th street and back to the depot.
Tuesday morning Sam Harris filed suit against Otis B. Weaver for 30000 damages. Five thousand dollars claims arise from a disturbance at a hotel. twenty five thousand from a News article about a raid by officers. Attorneys for the plaintiff are T. P. Holt Ada Wolf Hare Maxey and J. F. Holt Sherman.
The county chairman Byron Norrell urges rapid formation of Democratic clubs in all precincts as the primary nears and predicts a heated campaign leading to the November election. He emphasizes that they have the votes and must mobilize voters.
The record lists several marriage licenses with names and ages including Wm Matthews and Annie White, 18 and 18, then Franks and Laura Hollis, 28 and 26, and others. It notes Geo Ellsworth, a long time Democrat supporter, has become business manager of the News, taking charge yesterday.
W H Ebey announces candidacy for the state Insurance Commissioner. His long insurance experience and business reputation are cited as qualifications. Support from Ada and Pontotoc County is pledged as he seeks statewide votes.
The county convention will nominate for county offices on Saturday. Filing deadline was the 23rd and the chaotic election laws may allow a way to place the ticket. Rumors name H. A. Kroeger Francis for State Senator C. T. Barney for County Judge A. L. Bullock for County Attorney and John C. Chapman for Sheriff.
J R Floyd announces his candidacy for re election to the office of township trustee or assessor in Chickasaw Township. He has lived in the county for fourteen years at Allen Ada and Egypt and says his tax rolls and records show credit to himself and the township. He asks voters to consider his record in the August primary.
Judge J B A Robertson of Chandler withdraws from the race for governor citing exhausted legal campaign funds and the public mood as reasons he cannot win. He says he will run again in four years and remains encouraged by the support he has received.
The Socialist State Encampment will be held July 4 5 and 6 in Ada and promises the largest gathering of attractions yet. Nationally known speakers from various states will discuss moving from poverty to plenty. Steam swing and many other attractions will entertain attendees with stand privileges available through Wm. McDaniel.
Ad promotes savings at Shaws Nickel Store with low prices. Claims over 32 000 yards of fabrics and 1 000 articles including notions tableware and kitchen goods priced at 5 to 10 cents. Mentions good quality extracts and wide selection to lure price-conscious shoppers.
The Democrats of Allen have formed a local club and plan an active campaign in that portion of the county.
