Texas Courts Rule On Lynching Case In Austin

A habeas corpus action is filed in the Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin seeking release of six men jailed after a lynching of a Black man. Judges hear arguments as crowds gather outside the jail. several prisoners are released on bail while others remain held for grand jury action at the June term.

Dr Browall Dies in Sherman After Poisoning Complication

Friends mourn Dr H Browall who died in Saint Vincents Sanitarium Sherman Texas soon after an operation for blood poisoning contracted during a surgical case. He was 44 and practiced with Dr W D Paust in Ada Oklahoma until moving west. Funeral plans awaited arrival of his widow and baby.

Discrimination Charge Over Cotton Seed Ship Rates

Flynn amp Ames of Oklahoma City file petition with the Interstate Commerce Commission alleging twenty railroads give lower rates to Fort Smith Memphis Little Rock New Orleans St Louis and Kansas City than to Oklahoma points for cotton seed oil meal and cake. Thirty Oklahoma cotton seed oil mills sue as plaintiffs. railroads and major markets named as defendants. Lynch mob hangs man in Sumrtt Mississippi

Sumrtt Miss May 13. John Rist a Negro was hanged to a tree. No crime is known to have been committed by him. A mass meeting of citizens denounced the act as murder. A reward is offered for the capture of the perpetrators.
