Oklahoma Fair Corn Contest Offers Big Prizes

Oklahoma invites youth to enter a corn drawing contest with two classes for white and yellow corn. Exhibits must be grown this year and in by Sept 23. Cash prizes total 500 dollars plus multiple special awards from state businesses and associations.

Fort Sill to Become Largest Inland Post with New Buildings

Fort Sill plans a major expansion to become the largest inland port in the United States. Capt. Davvet Stone, construction quartermaster, oversees bids for a new barracks and related structures at Lawton Oklahoma with about 319,887 dollars on hand and sealed proposals due May 10.

Muskogee Official Charged With Defalcation in County Clerk Case

Muskogee Oklahoma May 4 Tony Mattney district clerk of Muskogee County was arrested by sheriff Ramsey and is held awaiting arraignment by Justice Bailey who is out of town. Mattney resigned and Perry Miller was appointed to succeed him with $20,000 bond posted.

Missouri Railroads Charged With Conspiracy in State Case

Attorney General Major filed quo warranto actions in Missouri Supreme Court against sixteen railroads accusing them of conspiring to fix passenger and freight rates and to restrain competition. The suit seeks to forfeit charters and press fines for violating state laws. A commission will be appointed after the return.

Oklahoma Commission orders rail tariff filings and service changes

The Oklahoma Corporation Commission in Guthrie issues orders effective May 1 and May 9 requiring sixteen railroads to file tariffs rate sheets classifications and amendments and to report freight movement rules. An added May 9 order adds a passenger train between Westville and Muskogee. Other actions approve depot and telephonic connections and dismiss several complaints about service and exemptions.
