Lynching of Mose Hill and Wat Chase in Marshall Texas
A chaotic mob of 30 to 40 men overpowered guards at the Harrison County jail in Marshall Texas. They hanged Mose Hill and Wat Chase from a willow tree near the southern city edge after a night of unrest following indictments for murder and related crimes. The coroner’s inquest named the deaths as unlawful hangings by unknown parties, with investigators later noting the act and a local photographer selling pictures of the lynching.
