A Black man is hanged by masked assailants while another man, alleged slaver, is tied to a telephone pole at Wiletrion in a contentious incident. Police report no immediate arrests as the community reels from the violence.
A mob of 75 to 100 men seized Slyvester Stennien from Latimer county jail in Milburton at 3:00 am and hanged him from a telephone pole after breaking the jail lock and cutting power. The suspect, jailed for killing Albert Taylor, faced no resistance as others fired into the crowd during the rampage. Police were absent and the night jailer was away.
