A proposal outlines a civic event in Ada to celebrate summer crops and entertain farmers. It notes gubernatorial candidates will debate around July 8 after a Fourth of July celebration, raising questions about combining agriculture, politics, and public gathering in Ada.
Dozens of Ada residences are being enlarged or rebuilt as five brick buildings rise, three on West 12th Street and two on East Main Street. Reports say Frank Phillips plans two brick structures on Townsend Avenue between R E Gaynes Hardware and Al Jen variety store.
Ardmore attorney RoiM Bester represents Shelby Downard Asphalt Co at a council meeting. A rescinding resolution overturns a June 12 1910 action and reaffirms the December 6 1909 stance on paving payments. Bond buyers Spitzer Co and others sought another rescission but Shelby Downard claims paving work will begin July 2 if they win the bid.
Roy Tyler of Ade residing one mile west produced a curhip weighing about 1.2 pounds and 21 inches in circumference. A rad dish also measured 14.5 inches in circumference, as recorded from the farm.
Notice seeks contact from anyone with ice cream packers to fill a short supply at Purity Ice Cream Co. Readers are urged to call to arrange work.
The Brotherhood of the Disciples for Christ held its monthly meeting at Christian church. Geo Thompson opened with Isa 6. Leroy Anderson urged a christian legislature. Wymore pressed civic reform for a clean Ada and enforcement of laws. L T Walters spoke on temperance noting a national sobriety wave. The gathering closed after a prayer by R W Allen. Next meeting set for the third Monday in July.
Yesterday at about 5 PM Landers and Deputy Sheriff Bob Duncan appeared before Police Court and pleaded guilty to fighting. Officers with a search warrant found little at Landers place on Twelfth Street except a half pint of whiskey from a convict and some empty bottles. Afterward Landers insulted Duncan and a few blows occurred before Officers Smith and Joyce separated them and escorted them to the court.
At the Durant Oklahoma courthouse the offices of Sheriff A. S. Hamilton and County Clerk S. E. Swinney were entered Saturday night. Several valuable records were mutilated and desks were ransacked though nothing is believed stolen. Locks on both doors were found picked.
Temperature highs near 97 with a 28.7 reading in the barometer. Warmer today than yesterday with noticeable moisture and a characteristic Oklahoma breeze. Weather man says conditions could raise the temperature by a degree or more.
Miss Kate Galt of Ardmore is named sponsor to represent Datny John H. Morgan at the state reunion in Oklahoma City. The local camp of Sons also honors Miss Marjorie Williams. The reunion is planned for early July. See the Weaver Agency for details.
In Guthrie Oklahoma June 20 arguments in equity by W H Coyle against Gov Haskell and state officers to enjoin removal of the state capital from Guthrie before 1913 began before Judge Ralph D Campbell in the Eastern district. West for the state argued lack of jurisdiction and that Congress and the state cannot force political action. Coyle contends the enabling act binding and the ordinance irrevocably adopted by the constitutional convention sustains the claim. The case draws interest amid similar Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico enabling act issues.
Will H Ebey enters the race for Oklahoma state insurance commissioner as a Democratic candidate. Ebey, a longtime Ada businessman and former clerk of the federal court, joins Milas Lusater T Ballard Jas W Martin and Seth Cordon as contenders. Ebey has held roles in public service and banking, indicating strong local support.
