Tahlequah Normal Inn Burns In Overnight Fire
In Tahlequah Oklahoma the Normal Inn, used by summer normal students, burned shortly after midnight. Girls in upper rooms escaped in nightgowns. Mrs Pitchford was carried out, Dr Walter Reed and a student jumped from a window. The fire started on the lower floor where a store and trust operation were located, a can of gasoline exploded spreading flames. Building saved partly. occupants housed by friends and faculty.

One man Alexander Green a negro serving a $200 fine and three months in jail walked to Hugo and surrendered to the sheriff. Green said an officer asked the five to run away to save the guard from neglect of duty and promised half a gallon of whiskey as a bribe. Four fugitives remain at large as sheriffs and county attorney investigate.
