Railroad Secures Injunctions In Tax Suit
McAlester Oklahoma June 14 temporary injunctions were granted by Judge Ralph S Campbell in the United States district court of the Hastert district of Oklahoma at McAlester. The counties treasurers are restrained from collecting the 1908 taxes assessed against the Missouri Kansas & Texas Gulf Colorado & Santa Fe Atchison Topeka Santa Fe Port Smith & Western and Midland Valley railway companies. Four coal companies filed similar suits in the same day bringing total suits to twenty in the district. The coal firms claim excessive taxation and challenge acts creating the state board of equalization. Atoka Oklahoma June 14 government drills report completion of 60 test holes in segregated coal lands of the Chickasaw nation with $190,000 spent over two years. Government estimates put the value of the segregated coal lands at $20,000,000 for the entire acreage with $5,000,000 allocated for surface rights.
