Break-in at Acton home steals guns and cash

Milton Ontario police investigate a break in at Alf Long s home on Highway 25 south of Acton. Nine hand guns two camels and cash totaling 1490 were stolen. A prized terrier was killed with a stolen gun. Police note possible glove use and ongoing inquiries.

Widening Acton Highway for Repaving Underway

Department of Highways widened Main Street at the south side near the stop lights and town workers raised catch basins to prepare for repaving Highway 25 in Acton. New curbs replaced the boulevard south of the street to reach Sunoco service station. Sidewalks are being repaired to match new road levels as repaving is expected to start this week.

Ospringe motorcyclist injured in Tuesday rainstorm

Keith Locke a 17 year old from Orton was struck by a 1965 Chevrolet on Main Street N Ospringe as rain slicked roads. He veered over the car hood breaking a wrist and kneecap. He received treatment at the scene and later operations at Guelph General Hospital. The other driver Mrs Patricia Loughman was shaken. both vehicles were towed. Police Constable R Hildreth investigated.

Blood donor clinic set for September 28 at Legion Hall

Mrs. W Finlay reminds residents of a blood donor clinic at the Legion Hall on Thursday September 28. Donors aged 18 to 65 may give blood with written parental consent for those under 18. The clinic operates 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 30 to 9 p.m.

Acton OPP Charge After Hit and Run At Car Wash

A Sunday hit and run at the B P car wash on Queen Street caused $50 damage to the left door of a 1967 Fairlane owned by Mrs. Jean Geberlein. A witness obtained the offending license plate and a town resident was charged with leaving the scene.

Election Candidates Parade Draws Halton Politicians

In Halton districts candidates George Kerr and Jack Lush of Halton West and Jim Snow of Halton East took part in a fair parade. Children in Kerr’s car tossed candies, with some families supporting a different political persuasion.

Acton Centenary Fair Sets Record Crowds and Awards

Acton’s centennial fair drew record crowds over three days with estimates near 11 000 to 12 000 and gate receipts at a new high. The celebration featured a Friday gala, a Sunday concert by Ukrainian and Slovenian groups, a parade with 30 floats, a large midway, and a centennial church service. Brenda Spear was crowned Miss Centennial Queen, with Margaret Giverin placing as 1966 Miss Acton Fair. Local bands, exhibits, and sports displays highlighted the event, with Gord Mason winning the town hockey shot title at 56 mph.

The Esquesing council led by Reeve George Laur ie and councillors Patterson and Hill joined a busy fair weekend. Laura Secord’s cow from McCullough’s farm paraded as the crowd cleaned up Sunday and Monday.

Prize lists delayed for next week at the Free Press

The Free Press will publish condensed prize lists next week for live stock, produce, domestic, riding and school work classes from the fall fair. An unusually large weekend produced many photos and news stories, so the lengthy prize lists are postponed.

Halton considers southern manor or Milton facility expansion

Halton Council debated building a new manor for the aged in the south versus expanding Milton facilities. A feasibility study is underway with results due next month. Burlington and Oakville may resist unless south options proceed. a site purchase is planned in the 1968 budget with $15,000 already raised.
