Acton council adjourned after a long meeting with no decisions on several by laws and agenda items. The top of Acton town hall tower was authorized for removal due to rot and a flat roof and new bell wheel were proposed. a special meeting was set to finish by law changes and other items.

Reverend Malcolm Gordon 97 Years Celebrated in Alberta
Rev. Malcolm Roland Gordon reached 97 and marked the milestone with an open house in Calgary. Long a minister in Presbyterian and United churches, he remains active preaching at the Old Folks Home and the Scottish Nursing Home. He was born in Acton Ontario and trained at Manitoba College and Princeton Theological Seminary. He spent nine years as pastor of the Dutch Settlers' Church in New York before returning to northern Alberta in 1904. He has two daughters, Helen Gordon McPherson of Vancouver and Myrtle Gordon Roberts of New York. He lives with Mr. and Mrs. George Oldaker at 536 23rd Ave. W. The Free Press offers belated congratulations.

The Halton volunteer group joined provincial efforts for pre testing the Farm Radio Forum guide. At the Ontario College of Education meeting, unanimity on volunteer groups was noted, with Halton among the five week pre press tests and a focus on county and forum secretary audits. The pre-forum broadcast is set for October 27 with the regular series starting November 3.

Acton Fair Hopes for Record Crowd and Entries
Fickle fall weather plagued Acton two years back and last year but residents, district farmers, and nearby towns expect a bright turnout this Friday and Saturday at Acton park. The 1952 fair features judging, a arena program, vaudeville acts, a 50 man band, baby show, contests, midway, and a town hall dance with hopes for record entries and attendance under good weather.

Obituary for Freda Williams Wife of Gordon Cook in London
Services were held in London for Freda Bernice Williams Cook wife of Gordon P Cook formerly of Acton. She died in a car crash Saturday night and is survived by her husband a son Dennis a brother Steve two sisters Mrs Chester Truss and Mrs John Green and her parents Mr and Mrs Albert Williams Port Stanley. Funeral details note pallbearers and interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. The crash on Emery Street near Wharncliffe Road left her killed and several others injured while Gordon Cook and others were treated at various hospitals.

John Brooks Wins Ridley Scholarship at Ridley College
John Brooks aged 15, son of Rev E A Brooks and Mrs Brooks of Grimsby, has won the Ridley College scholarship. The award, created in memory of H B Burfoyne of the St Catharines Standard, honors well rounded ability. Brooks, in grade XI, returns to Ridley for his fourth year this week.

Assessment Appeal Adjourns Sept 24 In Oakville Burlington
Oakville and Burlington completed their presentations at the equalization of assessment hearing this week. Judge W N Robinson will resume the hearing on September 24. The appeal challenges the county cost shares for which these municipalities are responsible with Nelson Trafalgar and Oakville also noted among those involved.
