Acton volunteers rush to complete improvements at Acton park ahead of the two day Fall Fair. Mac Sprowl leads crews to ready the grandstand grounds, exhibits, and arena for crowds, with hog show hopes and new sheep pens among the completed upgrades.

G Allen presided at the Storey reunion at Brookville community centre Nassagaweya with about 75 attendees. The gathering approved next year’s slate: Grant Allen president Dr Mason vice president D H Storey secretary treasurer and committees for supper program sports and nominations. Prizes were given to the oldest attendees and a moment of prayer was observed for members who died.
Walker Lodge held its annual church parade last Sunday evening at St Alban s Anglican church where Rev Ralph Price preached on Remember my Bonds from St Paul About 30 Masons marched from the Masonic Halls to the church with L W Lovell Worshipful Master of Walker Lodge Regalia worn A special visitor Maynard Watson of Fergus District Deputy Grand Master of Wellington district attended the service
Labor Day nuptials took place at St Alban's Anglican Church Acton as Margaret Louise Bradley wed Rennick Slater of Toronto Rev Ralph Price officiated Organist Mrs F G Oakes accompanied Yvonne Brunelle. The bride wore a white nylon tulle gown with train and lace bodice and carried red roses and stephanotis. Out of town guests attended from Oshawa Toronto Erin Georgetown and Guelph.
At about 6 50 pm Monday two cars collided on a hill two miles north of Acton on the town line. Mrs Mabel Butler of Acton suffered a fractured right ankle possible fractured nose and serious knee lacerations while Thomas Morden of Crewson Corners lost a tooth and facial cuts. Mrs Butler’s 1950 Plymouth was a total wreck and Mr Morden’s 1952 Chev was almost wrecked. PC Gunn investigated and both drivers were treated at Guelph General Hospital.
The 27 year old Acton clothing shop started by M Pallant has been sold to E Karey and Sons of Toronto. M H Gould becomes manager of Family Outfitters. The Pallants plan to live in Toronto. Mildred Bell buys the former Mrs B D Rachlin ladies wear shop now moved to the Maher Shoe Store premises.
The Daughters of Knox Church Acton held their regular monthly meeting at Mrs. Allan J. Buchanan’s home on September 14. With Dorothy Dawkins absent, Ruth Watkins chaired. Members discussed a new study book The Church We Can not See and heard an account of Glen Mohr Camp and Mini-yo we Camp journeys. New members and council executives were welcomed.
The Y shifts washroom facilities from the top floor to the basement with separate ladies showers. A new meeting room replaces the former shower area and will be redecorated by opening. The side hall is painted and tarred, a pew exit added, with Bilton Land Perry, Ken Allen, and John Frank directing the work.
J B Mackenzie and Son began work on the new Acton high school as foundations go in Move of a hydronic line to Acton Boulevard. The four classroom, library, shop and commercial rooms layout features Milton red brick and radiant heating with 60 cycle electricals. Completion planned for next July to allow summer installations and September use of old high school space by Acton public school.
Acton business leaders formed a fair for Acton in 1913 after years of independent fairs and a shift from Esquesing in Georgetown. The first event drew over 4,000 attendees, featured the Royal Grenadier Guards band, had over 2,000 entries, and offered more than 1,000 in prizes. The fair has grown through 40 years of operation.
Mrs. McLaughlin of Hillsburgh reached her 88th birthday as relatives gathered including Mr. and Mrs. Byron Bruce and guests. The report notes her good health and active interest in current affairs. Socials mention September tea at Everton Church of Christ Disciples and a Christian Women's Fellowship meeting at Mrs. D. G. Robertson's home.
About 100 census takers will fan out in Acton and nearby areas Sunday afternoon September 27 to contact every home in the district. The effort, linked to a church affiliations survey, aims to record each family's church attendance or preference, with data collected solely to seek information. The plan arose from the Ministerial Association meeting at Knox church, which noted rural areas would be included while avoiding intrusion on rural churches.
