Storey Reunion Echoes at Coxe Home in St Helena
About eighty descendants of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Storey gathered at Mr and Mrs WM Coxe in St Helena for the eighteenth annual reunion. The afternoon featured sports and chats followed by a luncheon in the driving shed. Officers were elected: President Thomas Mickie Milton Vice President Wim Coxe Milton Secretary-Treasurer Dorothy Frank. The program included music by Mrs J Evans and Dorothy and Andy Frank, comic songs, old-time fiddling, vocal duets and solos, and dancing before a final vote of thanks to the Coxes for hospitality.

Pretty September Wedding at Knox Church in Acton
A September wedding was held Saturday at Knox Presbyterian Church Acton uniting Wilma Ruth Hansen and Clarence McCheyne Coles in marriage. The ceremony featured Lohengrin’s march. attendants wore pink, blue, and orchid and bouquets of roses and sweet peas. After the service, about forty guests enjoyed a reception at the bride’s home and a two week honeymoon in Magnetawan Burks Falls and surrounding points.

Esquesing Council Passes Road Accounts and Raises Staff
Esquesing Township Council met Tuesday evening with Councillors Cleave Currie and Wilson present. Relief accounts were approved for $40.99 and road accounts totaling $1,379.36 were authorized. Other payments included Letter Shop Supply Co. 58-064 Bell Telephone 3.95 Hi Robertson 3.00 and ambulance costs 10.00. Several individuals received payments and a list of permanent employees under the Unemployment Insurance Act was approved. The council ordered a marked cheque for 420 returned to Richardson Construction & Co. and adjourned to October 5 at 2 p.m.

Mrs J E Gamble hosted the Acton Women's Institute September meeting. The motto Practising the art of conversation was read, Current Events were reviewed, and roll call noted Halton County events. The group decided to ship two cases of jam overseas peach and plum and to serve dinner at Acton Fall Fair. A two minute silence honored the Duke of Kent and Pte Wm Turner. After the National Anthem a social half hour followed.

Ontario Halts 1943 Motor Vehicle Plate Production
The federal steel controller ordered a stop to Ontario motor vehicle plate production for 1943 to conserve steel for war uses. J P Bickle, Ontario registrar, said about 400 000 steel plates already made at Guelph. remaining plates may be made from other materials. Only one plate per vehicle will be produced, with an expectation of about 400 000 active vehicles due to rubber and fuel shortages. The department issued 625 000 plate sets this year. The 1943 plates will have a black background with pale lettering.

Commandos Raid Norway Leads to Dutch Prisoner Return
