District schools prepare for a high enrollment with 1,430 pupils in Acton schools and over 3,300 citywide. Principal E A Hansen expects 480 in Acton District High, with plans for new grade arrangements and a two grade 13 class setup.
School principal M. Z. Bennett Elmec Smuath oversees a fine for the coming year as teachers note room 1 and 4 difficulties. Names Madd Gayle Meena Kooi kindergarten Meshay Alper Roan 2 and Mass Nelle Steenbergpen appear with room assignments.
The town explores three options for Queen Street lighting including underground wiring, overhead lines, or a rider pole system. Estimates place underground at about 2800 dollars and overhead at 2100 dollars with a plan to install new poles on the north side from Churchill Road to Young King.
Town crews install storm sewers and ditches to fix drainage at Bower Ave near the CNR. Work includes 400 foot culvert, concrete tile sections, and paving with tania te to direct water to storm sewers.
Linda Braida passes the Canadian Gold Test at Guelph after intensive training in Toronto. Judges and club officials congratulate her as она prepares for the Free Skating Test and resumes studies in Acton District High School.
Duane G Hackenbrook of Cobble a Road was hired as a hydro linesman this week following a commission directive to fill the post during employee absence. He previously worked as chief electrician at the HR Porter plant and with Ontario Hide. Frizzell remains out sick.
Acton to get a new Main Variety and Smoke Shop in the former bake shop building. Bert Leather and Jack Hatch will run the combined store offering drug sundries ice cream tobaccos and other items. Renovations underway with a mid month opening expected.
The Stone school will use four lower rooms of the new addition for classes on Tuesday though not yet finished. Principal Hansen and contractors expect ongoing upstairs work while downstairs rooms await completion, with dust and debris visible but staff keeping classrooms functional.
A hotel plans to install a five by six foot wall of 120 glazed tiles by street artist Elizabeth Hoos. The work portrays Toronto 1853 to 1848 street views with detailed depictions of harbour, colonnade, and Great Lakes trade. Hoos used kiln-fired glazes and transparent glaze to finish the tile panel.
Joan Cook of Acton High School received a $500 bursary after strong marks. Dottie Provenial student aid provided $8000 in support while York University offered an admission scholarship. If Joan maintains top grades she may reapply for future bursaries. a separate admission scholarship remains contingent on meeting a 66 percent minimum.
