Georgetown Milton and Trafalgar brigades joined Acton to simulate fire fighting at a vacant lot behind the Presbyterian Church. Water from the creek was dammed and pumped through 800 feet of hose to simulate extinguishing the blaze while spectators watched.

Acton band’s drum majorettes made their first public appearance outside Acton as part of a band tattoo in Burlington. About 25 members traveled by bus and private car to perform under Al Perrott with music including On Guard and Old Timers. The event drew around 300 musicians with Capt. Dobser as master of ceremonies.

Former Acton Resident Frederick Ryder Dies in Brockville
Frederick Ernest Ryder aged 76 to 77 died in Brockville on August 27 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Acton son of the late James Hyder and several Brockville residents. Former commercial traveller, he retired in 1992 and was active with First Presbyterian Church and Walker Lodge. Survived by wife Alice B. Chisholm two daughters Audrey Donovan and Barbara Broad bent one grandson David Ernest Donovan and siblings in Acton and Toronto. Interment in Oakland Cemetery.
