Mil-Park Intersection Contract Expands Road Widths

The Mil-Park intersection project will widen the road by about 10 feet to 28 feet curb to curb. The contract covers widening, sub-soil work, curbs gutters and catch basins, pole relocations for Bell Telephone and hydro lines, and paving. Three bids were reviewed with Len Ariss Construction, Guelph, bidding 14754.50. Work is expected to start soon after committee review.

Debenture Bids Sought for High School Addition

At a special council meeting the town opened bids totaling 95 600 on a 250 773 high school addition. The project cost estimate was 328 800 with funding from Federal Provincial programs and municipal borrowing. Council awaits Ontario Municipal Board bylaw approval and final routing of the debenture.

Red School House Reunion and District Reports

A reunion is planned for Saturday September 4 with an afternoon program highlighted by anecdotes. Acton Fair Opens With Mayors Address And Gala Friday

Mayor Les Duby to open the Acton Fair with a Friday night performance headlined by a variety show and crowning of Miss Acton Fair. Gerry De Vries of Amsterdam Halland spoke at the Rotary Club after a three week visit to see his brother in town. He shared Argentina slides and outlined baby food industry differences with Canada. Rotarians continued a six week Scout Hall renovation with painting and roof work.

Lazenby couple celebrates 50 years of marriage

George Lazenby Sr and Elsie Phillips marked their 50th wedding anniversary on a Wednesday. They married at St Albans Anglican church and live in Acton with two children, Dorothy and George. The pair, both long active in the community, shared a family dinner at the Dominion Hotel with relatives.
