Magistrate Dismisses Cider Charge After Friend Suspected

Magistrate L J C Bull told David A Brown of Erindale that the case for having liquor in an illegal place was dismissed after Brown said a friend who visited his home may have placed a bottle of hard cider in his car before an accident. The bottle was found by a traffic officer during the ensuing investigation while the friend was in a soporific condition and could not state ownership.

Building Progress on Murray Memorial M C A

The report notes good building weather aiding progress on the Murray Memorial M C A building. Rear walls are in place and roof joists will be positioned soon. Brickwork may finish this week enabling carpenters and roofers to enclose the structure and allow weatherproof work to continue. Plumbers and steam-fitters are installing equipment while the electric contractor wires the building.

Dense fog highway crash injures none as two trucks and car wreck

In fog last night two trucks and a motor car collided on the highway near Acton. A Ziggo of Hamilton fixed his lights westbound, a St. Marys man’s car stopped behind, and a Browne truck of Norval passed. The Norval truck sideswiped both, doors torn, fenders smashed. it then tipped into a left ditch. No one was hurt. Chief McPherson and Traffic Officer Howell investigated.

Milton High School Rugby Triumph Over Acton

The Milton High School rugby team defeated Acton High School 19 to 1 in the opening game of a series. The field was muddy and players slipped during the match.

Death of Kenneth Edwin Holloway at Acton

Bereaved in Acton, Mr and Mrs William Holloway mourn their son Kenneth Edwin whose funeral was held at St Alban's Church with interment in Fairview Cemetery Acton. A village birthday gathering at Moorecroft celebrated Mrs H P Moore's eightieth birthday with relatives from Toronto.

Anniversary of Knox Church at Acton Celebrates 89th Year

The Knox Presbyterian Church Acton marked its eighty ninth anniversary despite wet fall weather with morning and evening services. Rev Lloyd Evans spoke on gratitude from Isaiah and Psalm 103 while 1 Peter 2:7 framed the evening discourse. A joint United and Baptist service featured choirs and a quartette. A Ladies Aid supper and Happy Cousins Concert followed, with support from neighboring congregations.

Power outage disrupts town activities after pole break

A major local power interruption occurred last Thursday when a pole at Eden Mills was struck by a vehicle, plunging the town into darkness from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. It forced the cancelation of the Town Hall dance after a play and delayed expectant talks by Col. Geo Drew and Capt. Eddie Baker.

Halton Plowing Match At Hornby Highlights

Halton County Plowmen held a Thursday match on H. M. Bradley’s Hornby farm with about twenty participants. Banquet followed at Hornby Hall hosted by the Hornby Women’s Institute as President Stanley Hall led the program with remarks from regional reeves and officials. Awards honored Ridge and Tractor categories, with Wm McCurdy and J R Hargreaves among top winners and special prizes to Hargreaves and Hayden.

Voters Lists Under Dominion Act Ready for Inspection

Preparations for the Dominion Elections Act voters lists continue in Acton with four enumerators named George L. King James B. Adamson F L Wright and George Musselle working in East North West and South Wards. Lists for four polling subdivisions will be available November 13 14 and 15 for additions or omissions before final revision for the next Federal election.

Milton Appointments and Rural Roadside Accident Report

Changes in Milton government appointments include Marshall White becoming Division Court Clerk and W E McCready retiring as Bailiff with William R Wheeler named successor. A collision on the seventh line north of Hillsburg killed two cattle and injured two others when D L Mundell’s truck driven by Wm Grundy struck the herd, causing radiator and front end damage. An Oakville High School meeting on October 26 discusses agriculture and home economics schools for the coming winter with Reeve W H Morden in chair and J E Whitelock outlining courses. Similar schools operate in seven counties. Halton County gains opportunity due to prior success at Burlington Acton Milton.
