The Acton Planning Board reviewed amendments to the land use map and approved a new sanitary by law at the meeting Tuesday. Planning consultant Alan P. Deacon attended as members questioned sections and made changes. Copies of the by law will be prepared for a public meeting scheduled in November.
Cor Ray Mason of the OPP detachment investigated a Wednesday crash at Frederick and Church Streets. Vo Peycha of Acton drove east on Church and hit Go Smrich of Guelph who ran south on Frederick. Estimated damage to both cars $225. Mason continues the investigation.
Over 70 ratepayers attend a special council meeting as Ac tan votes to accept the sewer and water committee recommendations to halt a new industrial sewage treatment plant project and not extend current facilities beyond domestic use. The body discusses costs revenue and possible industry negotiations with the Water Resources Commission and the Ontario Municipal Board before forming a negotiation committee with mayoral scrutiny.
The site shows a modern storefront under construction though the tenant remains unknown. Observation notes a possible Moor building backing into the space with front upgrades visible as work proceeds. Owner M4. Pallant has not confirmed the business to occupy the building.
Joe Must Hurst Herman Frueler and George Haggett head the Spe c u Gutta Committers raising donations for the new M Z Bennett school. They urge former pupils to offer gifts or money and contact committee members to contribute. An extra hour of sleep is hoped as clocks fall back Saturday evening before 2 am Sunday.
The Royal Star Grey held an officers election at the YMCA last Friday evening. Elected were President Murray Smith Secretary Andrew Knox Program Chairman Norman Smith and Membership Chairman Carmen Woodburn. The club meets Friday evenings and plans many projects for the coming season.
After a committee report, Acton council approved a three year pact with the townships of Svin Ese quesing and Nassagaweya to provide a new fire truck housed in Acton. The townships will pay 150 per call until delivery, then 100 per call once the truck is paid for, with a new truck provided by the townships. The meeting also ordered sidewalk work on Bow er Avenue and discussed hydrant adjustments at Mull and Willow Streets.
At a church meeting on Tuesday evening, about 80 percent voted in favor of constructing a new church building for United Chincok. Alf Long, chairing the building committee, outlined costs totaling 62 000 dollars and proposed immediate basement work and a sustained building fund while completing the new church.
Equipment from the former Wool Corning Corporation plant in Acton goes to auction after three floors of gear, including tonnage machines, motors and files, are offered to buyers nationwide. The sale, promoted by a thirty page catalogue, marks the shift as English shipments had been prepared months earlier and the building awaits new occupancy after layoffs.
The Amalgamated Home and School Association held its regular meeting at Robert Lite school auditorium. Panelists included moderator Harry Kelly Gerald Wright Stewart Mitchell and Dr Robert Buckner who discussed child discipline and social acceptance.
About 73 Acton Wolf Cub packs members visited the Acton fire hall for a two hour demonstration of firefighting techniques sponsored by the Acton Fire Department. Fire Chief Newton showed equipment and truck handling to early arrivals. The Cubs watched films, saw resuscitation gear, and tried smoke masks before a lunch of hot chocolate and cookies.
