Word from Major M B and Mrs Collier of Toronto states Pte Elwood Collier died October 8 from wounds suffered August 8 in France. He was 20, attached to the Royal Regiment, wounded in eye and nose, last letter Aug 22 from convalescent hospital. Survived by parents two brothers W M Collier and Ronald.

Word arrives of Acton area soldiers wounded in Italy during World War II. L Sgt Bill Mattocks, eight months in the Army with the Canadian Forces, sustained bomb fragment wounds to the abdomen and chest region and is seriously ill. Gunner James Alexander Higgins, overseas a year, was wounded in action. Sgt F J Johnston, Acton native, seriously wounded in Italy after enlisting in 1940, with Johnston and W H Johnston listed as next of kin in Saskatchewan.

The Acton Public Utilities Commission met Monday with Commissioners Hansen and MacArthur present. Gordon Smith resigned effective month end after 28 years. Miss Speight to arrange forms and a new helper via Selective Service. The government calls on $3000 in bonds for the Seventh Victory Loan.
