Overseas Casualties Reported to Homes in Acton This Week
Word of Acton soldiers wounded on active service reached families this week. Corp Geo Bayliss was wounded a second time by bomb fragments in the throat and lower chest after returning from an earlier injury. Pte Peter Turkosz suffered head injuries in Italy when a truck hit a bomb crater. Johnnie Turkosz was wounded in France on June 21. The Buck family learned their brother, Frt Sgt Kenneth Buck, is presumed dead after long missing, per a Canadian Red Cross message.

War Service League Tag Day raises 195.41 dollars
The Duke of Devonshire Chapter I O D E held its October meeting at Mrs J W Wolfe’s home with Regent Mrs Matthews presiding. Total donations from Tag Day reached 195 dollars and 41 cents for the War Service League as plans were made for the Community Auction Sale and distribution of Ration Book No 5. Pearl Smith delivered a paper on Canada’s Shortest Railway. Lorraine Pallant received the Annual Award for highest Grade VIII standing, with a presentation by the Regent. Barn Destroyed in Eramosa Township Fire
A barn belonging to Harold Sunter on the Eramosa Fown line was destroyed by a morning fire. First spotted around eight o’clock, the structure and contents burned to ashes. No livestock were harmed though the season’s crop potatoes and implements were lost. The farm formerly belonged to Thomas Mack.
