Eramosa Township council met in Rockwood with Reeve Gray presiding. The board approved cemetery upkeep concerns, bylaw updates on live stock under dog protection rules, and a land purchase along with tax collection and Victory Loan planning.
Through Force Electric Products act, two dozen Acton boys will receive the home paper Tre Acton Fare Pains weekly. The firm sends papers to former employees and an added group with individual subscriptions supported by community volunteers. Wrapping colors distinguish sources and a desk ticket notes the sender.
Marguerite Pearl Ingram and George Scott Hall wed at Limehouse Presbyterian Church on September 26. Rev. C C Cocrane officiated as families and attendants joined in a reception at Fairfield Cottage Limehouse followed by a short honeymoon and plans to reside in Toronto.
A meeting to form a loyal committee of the Navy League will be held in the Century Chamber at 8 30 p.m on Thursday October 15. The meeting will be addressed by Mr Davison who has devoted his time to Navy League work and is familiar with all its phases and needs of vacation boys. All interested societies and persons are invited.
Mrs John Irvine received a telegram stating her husband, Major Irvine, is a prisoner of war at Camp Stalag 8B Germany. International Red Cross Geneva confirms prisoner of war number 2600 with official confirmation pending. Further details to follow as information arrives.

The 104th anniversary observance at Churchill United Church was held on Sunday with Rev Rees of Brin preaching at both morning and evening services. Miss Tiraham and Mrs G Aitken accompanied the singers. Blanche McKinnon Dorothy McKenzie and Margaret Brown of Acton sang duets and solo. Mrs Aitken accompanied at times. A large turnout attended both services.
A Peplow Transport truck left the highway near Acton and smashed a hydro pole in two. The driver climbed out uninjured as power was interrupted briefly and traffic officer Ray Mason investigated the crash. The truck, loaded with excelsior bales, veered onto the ditch and rolled onto its side after striking the pole and transformer pad line.
A wartime letter from PTE GODFREY HOW 20221 to Mr Dills expresses gratitude for news from home and district’s beaver club visits. He notes quiet conditions, good crops, and broadcasts to Canada. He asks to extend thanks to the Acton and District Comforts Committee and mentions receiving smokes.
The Woman's Association of the United Church met at Mrs So Reid's home on Wednesday with Mrs Wo Evans in charge. Devotions were led by Mrs SS Reid. after business, Mrs Reid was assisted by several ladies for a social hour and lunch.
Mrs J F Wilds hosted the Acton Women's Institute October meeting. Mrs G H Lantz gave the motto Magic beauty of snow and dew. Current events were reviewed by Mrs Collier. A fair report, hot dinners, and a successful afternoon were noted. Mrs Fred Anderson was named delegate to the October 29 20 convention in Kitchener with Mrs J E Gamble as alternate. The branch voted $10 to the War Services League for Christmas cakes for boys overseas. A new roof was planned after a rainy fair day. They demonstrated using old Christmas items, sent a quilt and coat to Mrs Atkin in Toronto for war donations, and discussed November plans at the Davidson or Lovell homes due to transport issues. Letters of thanks from overseas boys were read. The meeting closed with prayers and the National Anthem.
Mrs. C. J. van Goozen of Acton reports a farm cat that will be twenty years old next February. The feline is deaf but still a capable mouser, prompting a search for any older cats to compare longevity.
Lakeside Chapter held a mile of money drive on Mill Street with members and helpers. The Acton and Vicinity War Service League expects to benefit by over one hundred dollars from the effort.
Erin Township Council met at Hillsburg on October with business transacted. The collector's bond was renewed with Canadian Surety Co. Premium 5000 dollars. By law Sh 12 was passed imposing a tax penalty of 3 6 on all taxes not paid by December 1942 and a monthly penalty of one half of one percent thereafter. The County Treasurer was instructed to withdraw certain property from the Tax Sale. Amounts paid included Erin Agricultural Society 180.00 and road expenses 326.12. Council adjourned to Hillsburg for November 2 at 10 o'clock a.m.
A Hydro-Electric Power Commission letter urged enforcement of lighting limits. Acton reduced street lighting by 47 percent and window lighting was observed. overall street lighting was cut 20 percent. The meeting, attended by Commissioner Collansen and Chairman M Symon, reviewed payments to Hydro Dept and Waterworks suppliers totaling 3,989.01.
The Ebenezer Ladies’ Aid meets at Miss Annie Bullion’s home to review fifty years of service. Mrs Marshall recounts the group’s origin in 1892, noting over twenty thousand dollars raised for church and parsonage. The history highlights unity amid differences and long association with parsonage welfare and community events.
