The Open Your Week event at the YMCA features the official opening of the new room and social activities for seniors. Men, women, seniors, and youth participate in volleyball, badminton, shuffleboard, and games. The Y M C A Membership Week runs October 1 to 18 with a goal of 200 members and a plan to fund the coming year through joined support.
Halton clubs showcased dairy cattle at Acton and Milton fairs with strong calf and grain exhibits. Acton judged ten foals led by Gordon Rodney, while Milton drew 64 club members despite rain, featuring Holstein and Jersey entries. The Jerary-Guernsacy Club honored Fred Ruddell’s top entry and the McKendrick Trophy went to Gordon Hume.
Independent candidate Wallace H. Cross faced a perilous campaign trek in Halton riding as five aeroplanes took off from Trafalgar Township for a Milton route. Fog forced two planes to land near Milton, one returned safely to Lowville, and two others with loudspeakers separated but later reached the field.
Delegates from several town churches met at the Town Hall to organize sending a carload of fresh and canned produce to the West. The plan includes loading at freight sheds October 1 and 2, urging local farmers to contribute, and a collection drive October 14 and 15, with Acton residents to donate preserved fruit or vegetables. Volunteers with small trucks are asked to offer them with driver.
Cedarvale school notes September results with grades and scores for students from Grade 1 to Grade 9. Notable entries include Flora Sim and Elizabeth Sim with Hud no tests. Arthur Saunders 97. The Duke of Devonshire Chapter LO DE held its regular meeting at Mrs J M McDonald’s home with Regent Mrs Blow in charge. Readings on Strife between China and Japan and Life in an Iron Lung were given, a piano solo performed, and a guessing contest won by Miss Bennett. Work for the year was planned, including a euchre event, with lunch served afterward.
Ontario voters endorsed Premier Hepburn with a large Liberal sweep. Halton gave Tom Blakelock the biggest county majority ever, while Acton and surrounding subdivisions largely backed Liberal candidates and narrowed Conservative strength across the region. Official county totals expected next week.
The Counce for the Township of Bramona met in Rockwood Hall on Monday with Reeve D H Storey and Councillors present. A grant of $500 was given to the Rockwood Horticultural Society and $200 was ordered paid for destroying a dog that worried a shoe. The Collector was instructed to collect arrears and take steps as needed. The council approved purchasing equipment to protect records and documents valued at $844.48, and adjourned to November 16 at 1:30.
Richard Sharpe and Allan George Grant of Ontario face forgery charges after Sharpe allegedly issued a cheque for wages in Acton that paid for goods and cash. Police from Guelph and Barrie detained Sharpe after the incident and he is to answer in Acton police court this afternoon.
Mr. Nesbitt of Young Street grows Everbearing strawberries. His plants have produced steadily since June and were described as bearing continuously with fresh fruit available for dinner on Tuesday.
A fine bank barn on Donald Campbell's farm near Moffat burned to the ground with the origin of the fire undetermined. The hay and grain crop were destroyed, livestock escaped, and a possible loss estimate is not yet available. Earlier this spring the farmhouse on the same property was destroyed by fire.
The cabinet organized post election will be announced soon. Results show Liberal gains and losses across Ontario with Windsor Walkerville and Toronto Beirl woods notable upsets by former Hepburn ministers Croas and Roebuck. Conservative losses include Peterborough and Oshawa contests, while Halton votes wrap the tally.
A community dedication ceremony opened the new recreation room with the Whe poon and invited guests present. Speeches from Mr Amus Mason and Mr Elfiedh emphasized gifts that made the room possible, followed by prayers, a sing song, readings, and a talk. Attendees enjoyed shuffleboard and refreshments served by the Board of Directors and their wives.
The inaugural meeting was held on Tuesday October Sth at 8 09 pm in the School Room. Officers and executives were elected including Honorary President Rev HL Ben and President Norman Wright. Several departments and committees were formed with Miss Urana McDonald as Secretary and Miss Ho Malnoprize as Treasurer. Members plan to attend the Provincial Convention in Ottawa during Thanksgiving weekend and report back.

Acton School Board met Tuesday with members including P W Pearen and Dr A J Buchanan. They approved a grant of 490.06 to the Continuation School Athletic Association and authorized payments for various supplies and repairs. Fireman representatives discussed installing shelving in the school.
Nassagaweya Township Council met with all members present and Reeve Gordon presiding. Minutes were adopted, correspondence from St Josephs Hospital Hamilton General Hospital Guelph and Hydro-Electric Power Commission Guelph discussed, accounts paid, and permission granted for Mr and Mrs Frank Kennedy to reside in the township. The meeting adjourned to meet in November or at the Reeve’s call.
Lorena Locker Audrey Chalmers and Mrs A H Bishop thank friends for support in Good-Will Campaign. They mention fourth place prize walnut chest and votes won amid loyal assistance from the community.
