Acton High and Public Schools Hold Yearly Meet

A cool day did not deter a good crowd as Public and High School students competed in events from ages 5 to 14. Winners included Margaret Smith Kay Chapman Dorothy MacArthur Jack Blow Roderick Ryder and Hector Lambert with many races and field events across girls and boys divisions.

Murray Memorial Y M C A Building Progress Report

Progress continues on the Murray Memorial Y M C A project with the front section completed for Saturday service. Steel girders for the rear sections and joists worked in, bricklayers delayed by carpenters, cement tile and Roman cut stone delivered for gym and entrance, full bricklayer staff expected soon, brick colors approved and door windows frames ready.

Rally Day Unites Actson Churches with Worship and Baptisms

Sunday services in Acton united United Presbyterian and Baptist churches for Rally Day. Mr A T Brown led the Sunday School in the United Church and died during the service while Rev C L Poole spoke on a Century and a Half of the Sunday School Movement. Baptist Church held a baptismal service with two young ladies. Knox Church held prayers and praise with readings by Mae Roney and Vernon Agnew and a sermon on Our All for God. Over thirty scripture prizes were awarded.

Corner Stone of Murray Memorial Y M C A Laid

Acton celebrated the corner stone laying of the Murray Memorial Y M C A building on a damp Saturday with about four hundred attendees. Wm A Murray, brother of the late J A Murray, laid the stone with a silver trowel, and a metal box of documents and coins was sealed inside.

Shakespearean Plays at Town Hall Acton October 9

Two Shakespearean plays, The Taming of the Shrew and Macbeth, are part of a Town Hall Acton event. The Taming of the Shrew centers on Baptista, his daughter Katharine the Shrew, and Petruchio’s vow to make her obedient. Macbeth follows the murder and ambition plot aided by the Weird Sisters and Lady Macbeth, ending in tragedy.

High Schools in Musical Festivals Planned by Board

Trustees met Tuesday with Chairman J. M. McDonald presiding. A Welfare Dept letter on free children’s books was filed. The High School received approval to use Settler's Elementary Chemistry II text if in use. Purchases for oil music and supplies were approved. Finance reported several small payments totaling 127.00, adopted. A Musical Festival awards plan for High and Continuation School singers was set. Field Secretary LaTrobe was invited to present safety lectures with films in Town Hall.

Appointed Justice of Peace for Acton District

Mr. G. A. Dills received notice from the Assistant Provincial Secretary that by Order-in-Council dated the 2nd instant the Lieutenant-Governor, by commission, appointed him a Justice of the Peace for the Acton district. He may begin duties immediately though the formal commission arrives in about two weeks. He will hear complaints take information issue summonses and warrants and may try minor cases if requested by the District Magistrate. He may not charge fees except for affidavits not connected to Criminal Court proceedings.
