Acton police report 48 motorists were charged last Saturday after radar units operated at Queen and Young Streets. Corporal Mason warns shooting is prohibited at Fairy Lake and notes game wardens will patrol the area.
Halton County Game Warden Bob Reed announced Fairy Lake in Acton was stocked this week with 5000 smallmouth bass. Fish range from 4 to 5 inches, and the trees around town show autumn colors as leaves change.
Nassagaweya Township agrees with Acton to join a temporary fire-call rate of 180 dollars per call, ending October 21, with a plan to finalize terms after a meeting with Erin and others. Council also handles development disputes with Lakview subdivision builders, storm water drainage aid from Hubert Hudson Company, and road shoulder repairs for No 25 highway.
Assessment figures show a population of 3 903 up from 3 728 and total valuation rising to 4 560 403 34 with residential 2 903 723 commercial and industrial 1 204 68 54 and business 848 200 an increase of 137 088 54. The assessor Mr Jones notes the roll may be appealed. Duck hunting season starts Saturday at nine but no shotgun noise at the park due to new rules banishing shooting.

The Acton St John Ambulance Brigade celebrated receiving its official charter at St Alban Parish Hall last Friday. Local officials praised the brigade for its year of service at events like Acton Fall Fair and civic celebrations. Charles Jerkins and Col. J. R. M. Sinclair presented certificates to members including Dave Spicer and John Buckman.
World War I veterans from the 164th Battalion C E F will parade through Acton to the cenotaph on Saturday October Sth. The event honors fallen comrades with music from the Acton Citizens Band and a post ceremony gathering at the Legion Auditorium.
The Acton Public School Board announced a weekly library book distribution change for students. Books will be issued from librarians at Robert Little and M. Bennett Schools where a junior library is set up. A new library card is required, though blue card holders may still use the YMCA library during regular hours.
The Smitish Industrial Group purchased 262 acres of the 900 acre optioned area in Erin Township comprising lots 13 to 15 east and west of Erin. They plan a plant to process building materials. Additional lands including Norman Nixon farm and Fred Wilson parcels have sold. negotiations continue for Rosa Overland and Fred Wilson lands in Caledon and other properties.
