The Acton Public Utilities Commission held a meeting to pay several accounts from the Board of Light and Heat, suppliers, and the HEPC of Ontario, and to review bond sales. A request by Beardmore & Co. for a large water consumer rate of 15 cents per thousand gallons was approved for 500 000 gallons or more per year based on recent usage of 1 019 310 gallons. The commission also ordered arrears theft checks and to cut off those in arrears.

Splendid Holstein Show at Milton County Fair
The Black and White Show by the Halton Holstein Breeders and Halton Agricultural Society drew 100 Holsteins from 29 Halton herds at Milton. Premier exhibitors Robinson Bros. of Georgetown revealed the Grand Championship in females on Daisy Gano Hartog, and Bank of Commerce Trophy for the winning herd. Beaufort Burke Mercedes won the Grand Championship for males under E. B. Somerset of Freeman, with Beaufort Queen Dewdrop as part of the progeny group. Get of Sire honors went to Glencoe startog Mercedes for Segsworth and Robinson, while Glen Allen Ray Apple Snowball’s progeny earned the Bank of Nova Scotia Silver Tray for A. Stark & Son. The Nelson Township herd claimed the Inter-Township class, and Milton Holstein Calf Club held Achievement Day with awards by Agricultural Representative C. D. Graham.

Barn Fire in Nelson Township Destroys Winn Farm
Fire of unknown origin destroyed a large bank barn on Cameron A. Winn’s Nelson Township farm during threshing last Thursday. Loss estimated at 6000 dollars with partial insurance, threshing machine also destroyed and the season’s 115 loads of hay and grain lost. A pure bred Jersey calf perished while a Jersey cow and another calf were saved. Milton Volunteer Fire Brigade credited with saving the implement shed and farm residence.

New Frederick Street Opens After Rapid Construction
A week and more ago the south end of Frederick Street was a ravine. Modern road machinery and County Engineer Smith filled the gap, graded the road, and opened a full width route to the Wool Combing Corporation plant.
