Acton Churches Rally With Special Speakers and Harvest Observances
Last Sunday hundreds of Acton residents attended district church services with harvest and thanksgiving programs. Churchill marked its 114th anniversary with special services led by Rev. Frank Swackhammer of Centre Baptist. Knox Presbyterian and Acton Baptist hosted the Sunday school rally as graduates joined a 200 member goal. St Alban’s heard Ven. W G O Thompson while others preached in Glen Williams and Georgetown. West Milton hosted 100th anniversary services at St Paul’s United.

A Tuesday meeting at Gerry Candler’s home in Acton organized a Square Dance Club with 171 attendees. The group formed a committee including Ed Bilton, Charles Mason, Tom Jones and Candler to plan about 10 dances from November to March with an instructor and orchestra for each event. A live audience of about 400 plus radio listeners heard the Double or Nothing program from Acton Town Hall hosted by Stu Kenney. Contestants from Acton Rockwood and Guelph answered prize questions with a top prize of 16 dollars. The United church Sunday school funded the event with about 40 dollars, and Maker Shoe Stores sponsored a closing commercial.
