Acton District Notes Mark Eighty Second Birthday

The community records Mrs Eliza McPherson turning eighty two with family visits at her daughter Mrs James Symon home. Young People's Society hosts a program led by Miss Elva Johnston and includes readings by Arthur McKeown and Mary S Nelson plus a piano solo by Miss J Barbour. Past Masters Night in Walker Lodge is announced for Monday the 19th with a long list of officers in charge.

Remembrance Day Observed by Acton Community Groups

Large turnout at Acton United Church for the Armistice anniversary with outdoor service at the Memorial. Wreaths, buglers, and readings honored fallen soldiers. charity efforts sent clothing to Western Canada and quilts to be shipped from the United Church. Y P A and YW A events featured plays and music, with Rev. Brillinger delivering the sermon on sacrifice and peace.

Fire in Brampton Garage Damages R J Bretts Fuel Facility

A fire at the storage garage of R J Bretts Fuel Company in Brampton caused about 2000 dollars in damage. The blaze, likely from an overheated furnace, endangered a service station next door until trucks and a sedan were moved by bystanders and firefighters. Fire hydrants failed to supply water promptly. Community notices follow including church meetings and missionary society events with details of speakers and activities.

Esquesing Township Council By laws and accounts details

The Esquesing Township Council held its regular monthly meeting with Reeve George Currie presiding. Communications from The Canadian Legion Georgetown and others were read. Accounts were ordered paid by the treasurer including telephone, court, juror fees, county rate interest, relief purchases, milk and meat supplied, and various audit and inspection expenses. Public Utilities Commission Holds Regular Meeting

The Public Utilities Commission met Wednesday with Commissioners Kerr King and Chairman Thetford in charge. They approved accounts for the Mydro Department Bell Telephone Canada General Electric and others totaling 503.52 and 51.95 for the Waterworks. They declined moving a building until readiness and urged arrears collection. Lighting at the new Murray Memorial Y M C A office was discussed with no decision. A future meeting in the new year will invite key interested parties.

Billie questions teacher after being shaken at school

Billie, a six year old, is questioned by his mother about a teacher shaking him for disobedience. Billie explains he was told to sing louder and complied by singing louder afterward, leaving the mother seeking understanding of the event.

Sir Donald Mann Dies After Long Rail Career

Sir Donald Mann of Acton and Toronto died suddenly Saturday at his home in Toronto at eighty-one. He led MacKenzie Mann & Company in railway construction across Canada and helped found the Lake Manitoba Railway which became part of the Canadian Northern and later the Canadian National. The funeral was held in Acton with interment at Fairview Cemetery after a life shaping Canadian railways.
