Fluoride Content of Water Supplies Equal Across Areas

The Public Utilities Commission said the Churchill Road well fluoride level matches that of other municipalities where fluoride is added. Sendoff for Sole Scot Duncan McCrea in Acton

About 300 people gathered at the CNR station Monday evening as four members of the Acton Junior Pipe Band piped Duncan McCrea onto the departing train to Scotland. McCrea, living in Acton for three years and employed at Micro Plastics, heads home with his wife for new work abroad. Pipe Major Phil Caddick and helpers led the farewell while the crowd wished him a good voyage.

Jean Moffat was elected president of the student council with Lynda Lovell as vice president and Peter Newton secretary. The announcment followed campaign posters and cheers, as principal Ted Hansen announced results over the intercom.

The final count shows UNICEF pennies collected on Halloween totaling 128 dollars and 50 cents. One of the strongest gestures noted was pennies handed out in rolls, highlighting community generosity.

Remembrance Day Service Honors War Heroes in Acton

Stolen Car Recovered in Acton Led to Teen Theft Charge

A 17 year old district youth was arrested and charged with theft of a car and license plates after a stolen vehicle was recovered in Acton at 12 30 pm on Wednesday by Constable Moreau of the local O P P. The incident followed a report that Bob Foyers license plates were tampered with and later found to be removed from a Brampton car earlier that afternoon.

Memorial Service Held at Haltonville Cenotaph

A heavy rain crowd gathered at Haltonville cenotaph for the Amu Memorial Service on Wednesday afternoon. Wreaths were laid by local officials and Legion members, followed by a church service at Nawagaweya Presbyterian with Rev. Roope Jeffares as guest speaker.

New Administrator J McGeachie Named To Lead Town Force 1959

The Avton Council appointed J McGeachie as town administrator to guide the town’s working force for 1959 following a recommendation by the administration committee. The move drew objections from Councillors Tawe and Pope but the council approved related renovations and a $2 200 budget for town hall work while planning the new administration structure.

Public School Crossing Guards Hours Change After Delays

Ted Tyler New President To Head Chamber of Commerce

Ted Tyler was elected president of the chamber of commerce by acclamation at a Wednesday evening meeting. Norman Ureida was named first vice president and Bill Benson second in command. Directors for two years are Dave Munes William MacKay lint Ledger and Fred Gordon. Ted Tyler Jr was appointed director for one year. W Woodburn and J Bert Wood remain secretary and treasurer respectively. A dinner meeting at the Baptist church followed minutes and a discussion on dues. Speyside School to Open near Speyside in 1960

Land for the Speyside public school was purchased, six and a half acres, with construction contract awarded to Schiedel Construction Company of Hespeler. The five room school, designed by Barnett and Rieder, will be at the corner of the 17 Sideroad and No 23 Highway, to relieve congestion at nearby schools. Occupancy is expected next September, with the project advancing rapidly.
