Esquesing Township Opens New Community Hall in Stewarttown

Citizens of Esquesing Township celebrate the completed 46 by 120 foot brick Community Hall in Stewarttown. The edifice includes a council chamber, 200 person assembly hall, kitchen, toilets, and a garage. cost expected near 20000 with subsidies from government departments. A parking lot and water system with a well and electric pump enhance the building’s features.

Esquesing Community Hall Opened With Dignitaries

A large crowd gathered at Esquesing Community Hall to officially open the Stewarttown building. Speaker J A Carrall of the Department of Agriculture lauded local progress, while Warden George Cleave presided and three ex-reeves offered congratulations. The mayor of Georgetown sent greetings as the council handed over hall administration to A Alexander and committee, ending with a dance to launch the community development program.

Knox YWA Presents Gift to Mrs J M Anderson

The October Knox YWA meeting at Mrs G W Munsales home was led by president Mrs F Anderson. Marguerite Hostell read scripture, Mrs R O Hara offered prayer, and Mrs Sinclair spoke from the Study Book. Mrs Inglis presented Mrs Anderson with a gift of friendship. she expressed thanks as the group shared a social hour.

Y's Men Stage Halloween Children's Party Features

The Y's Men Club hosted a Halloween party at the Town Hall despite heavy fog. About 300 children attended with costumes across preschool to grade 8, prizes awarded for best costumes, and entertainment from band led by Bandmaster Mason.

October Meeting of Greenock WLI at Mrs J Nears

Greenock W I met at the home of Mrs. J Near on October 20 with the president presiding. Elva Pearen read the scripture and roll call was answered by my favourite book and author. A new quilt display and Christmas card sale profits to WI were noted. A supper play was discussed and a duet by Mrs T McCutcheon and Mrs H Reid. Mrs Stanel conducted a Famous Children contest won by Mrs E Patterson. National Anthem, lunch, and social time followed.

Mrs John Anderson hosted the Knox Ladies Aid at the manse for October. President Mrs FL McCutcheon led the business, plans for the Anniversary supper were discussed, and delegations reported progress. Musical numbers were performed by Mrs Wood and the Ladies Quartette. A farewell gift honored Mrs Anderson. Refreshments followed. Mrs Al GT Murray was named November meeting competsor.

Baptist Church Marks 106th Anniversary

Acton's oldest church, the Baptist Church, celebrated its 106th anniversary with Rev. Frank Patch of Wentworth Street Baptist Church, Hamilton, as guest speaker. Baracen Mate Quartette of Preston provided special music, performing multiple selections at both services, with organist Chas Landsborough.

New Chancel United Church Dedicated After Renovation

The New Chancel United Church in Acton reopened after renovations with a dedicated service on Friday October Voth led by Rev. Hillman of Kitchener. Sunday worship featured the sermon Christ the Foundation from 1 Corinthians 3 11 and music by a large choir and soloist Mrs Russo of Unionville. Next Sunday will see the first communion in the renovated church.

The November gathering at Mrs Sires home, led by Regent Mrs N Botret, approved a donation to headquarters to cover shipping and food costs. Clothing for babies to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and a school adoption were discussed. A December program includes an address by Mrs D. Shuce and Christmas carols. Refreshments were served. Canada’s May population stood at 12,883,000 with Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia showing the largest gains.
