Centennial Manor staff house opening near million investment
Halton's Centennial Manor welcomes a new staff house to be officially opened Sunday at 2 30 p m by L E Ludlow Ontario Director of Homes for the Aged Division. The project lifts the county investment to just under a million dollars. Robert H Shannon Halton Manor Board chair invites all to visit the manor with Lorne Scots Band providing music and light refreshments in the dining room. The addition, begun in 1955, frees 20 beds for residents and improves staff wages, while ongoing landscaping, sidewalks and lighting enhance safety and outdoor activity for residents.

Lifesaver Sale Tops Fundraising Effort at Gra-Y Club
The Gra-Y club sold 2420 lifesavers over Friday and Saturday raising 62.94 for YWCA world service work. Top seller Verna Churchill raised 19.30, followed by Jacoba Van der Brink 10.20 and Dave Fleming 16.40. The team went door to door in Rockwood and sold packages until stock ran out.

Popular Citizen L Masters Dies in Car Crash
Lorne Masters 32, active in Acton community, dies when his car leaves Highway 25 north of Milton. He served as Y M C A and Home and School leader and coached local youth sports. Survived by wife Mrs Martha Masters and three children, parents, two sisters and two brothers. Funeral Saturday at Knox Presbyterian with interment at Fairview Cemetery.

Special services and music celebrated Acton United church anniversary with more than 560 dinners served. Rev W Harold Young spoke at both services. ministers from other congregations joined the evening. A turkey dinner fed 500 plus 60 takeouts, followed by a program including Mrs Kenneth Griffiths Donna McMillan Elmer Dredge and Morris Van Hemmen with Helen Landsborough. Rev Gordon Adams chaired.

Former Acton Resident Dies in Fatal Car Crash
A former Acton resident, Mrs John W. Scriven, died Sunday evening after the car driven by her husband left the road at a highway junction near Orillia. She was pinned in the vehicle as it struck a maple tree. police freed her after a lengthy effort. The family had lived on Main St before moving to Toronto.

Two Toronto Men Plead Guilty to Burglary and Theft
Donald Bradley and Robert Livingston, both 21, pleaded guilty in Cooksville magistrate court to burglary and theft including a June break in at Ballentine's service station. Police say the pair admitted thefts in Whitby Cooksville Unionville Acton and possession of several firearms later found in their East York rooms. They cooperated with police and offered locations of stolen articles.

Legion Minor Sports Dinner Highlights 1955 Season
