Sunday evening a sacred concert at United Church drew members of United Church, Presbyterian and St. John’s in a display of community spirit. Knox Church Guelph junior choir under Martin Bauer performed with Rev John Dilts directing and a brief devotional. Attendees included Marie Land and a sequence of duets and numbers by local singers with Ms. Bauer directing. Rogationtide service followed at St John’s with Rev Price officiating and prayers for crops. Several holiday visitors from Hamilton Toronto Weston and Orangeville were noted.

Campbellville Opens 1954 Hardball Season With 10 4 Win
Campbellville defeated Milton 10 4 Saturday to cap off a display of strong offense, 16 hits, and a fireworks show. Harry Hamilton starred on the mound with eight strikeouts as Campbellville built a 4 1 lead, then held off Milton’s late surge with timely hitting including Henderson’s home run and Wingrove’s doubles to seal the victory.

May Meeting of Dublin Women's Institute at Van Gooren Home
Mrs Van Gooren hosted the Dublin Women s Institute for its May meeting attended by 27 members. The meeting opened with the Institute Ode and the Mary Stewart Collect. President Mrs Thompson chaired as $10 was donated to the Institute for the Blind. A bus trip was planned. Mrs C McTyne led a contest and the meeting ended with the Queen Lunch served by the committee.

Archie Menery survived a wagon incident when the wagon neck yoke slipped causing the team to bolt. He was thrown breaking his leg in two places and found after an hour and a half by a neighbour. He is at Guelph General Hospital with well wishes for a speedy recovery.

Blair Evening Auxiliary Meeting Recaps Charity Work
Mrs Willarimanu hosted the Blair Evening Auxiliary with Mrs Andrews presiding. Reports covered six dresses sent to Birtle Indian school and a letter from the Presbyterian supply secretary. Members were urged to bring aprons and gifts for a bazaar while a discussion on the Birtle Indian residential school impressed the group. A social period followed.

Book of History Wins Second Prize in County Competition
Seven of the Jad Wood Women from Silver Wood district won second prize in Halton county Tweedsmuir history competition at the N Presbyterian church. Their history will advance for provincial judging against other county winners. Local effort in compiling district history drew community support and thanks to contributors.
