Tennis Club Opens Season With Social Tournament
The Acton Lawn Bowling and Tennis Club opened the season last Wednesday May 19 with a social tournament. Sixteen players competed and winners were Messrs Blow and Adamson with Junelle as runners up. A first prize of six tennis balls was awarded. Refreshments followed in the club house prepared by the tennis committee, with many thanking the ladies for the hospitality.

Girl operator saves cathedral in Australia
Miss Pat Kenney a seventeen year old telephone exchange operator saved St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral in Adelaide from a blaze. She found flames on the east side and dragged a hose from the courtyard to extinguish the fire without aid. She was born in Acton, daughter of Edward and Mrs Kenney, and a niece of Patrick Kenney of Acton.
