Peru once rivaled Milton as county town founder's tale

Hatton’s Pages of the Past recounts Peru in Esquesing Township as a bustling 19th century village. The Center and Robertson families built soapworks and a limekiln hub along Sixteen Mile Creek, with a tannery, ashery, and a thriving dairy tied to the Milton brick plant. Notable figures include Dr. Edwin Robertson, famed for Moose River Mine rescue bravery, and the Robertson clan’s broad landholdings and enterprises.
