Board of Education approves 32 million budget with three opposed
Oakville trustees vote against the 32 million county education budget after three hours of discussion. The board reviews department requests, student teacher ratios, and policy implications, keeping key programs and staff budgets intact while considering cuts to supplies and library resources. The motion to reduce expenditures by 50 thousand in instructional aids, 65 thousand in text books, and 50 thousand in library costs fails amid debate over placing the burden on communities and maintaining educational access.

Subsidy on education increases may cut Halton mill rate
Halton County Board hears that higher provincial education subsidies could trim the 1969 education mill rate by up to six mills for towns like Acton Milton Nessagaweys and Oakville while Burlington and Georgetown would get none. The plan credits the subsidy directly to reduce the 1969 requisition and relies on revised formula rules addressing 1968-69 cost variances.
