Thieves foiled in break in at Mason Knit Mills
Entry to Mason Knit Mills ended with burglars foiled after smashing a rear window and trying to jam the large safe door. They ransacked offices of president George Mason and secretary treasurer Charlie Kirkness, broke a coin box, damaged a coffee machine, and left a steel bar. Constable Peter Campbell reported the scene at 2.10 am and finger print expert Murray McMaster joined the investigation.

Paving Planned After Land Clearance At Local Block
Land between the Simpsons Sears mail order office and Ledger's GA store is levelled for paving. Posts separating the two properties have been removed under a joint agreement between Woo J. McLeod, owner of the mail order block, and Dave Manes, proprietor of the GA store. Plans aim to extend paving around the store buildings.

Roy McIntosh of Oshawa, a former Worshipful Master of Walker Lodge A F and A M, was awarded his 60 year jewel at a Temple Lodge ceremony in Oshawa. Actor Fred Wright was named Citizen of the Year at the Acton Chamber of Commerce dinner. Mrs Wright and guests, including Mayor Les Duby and M.P. Harley, attended as over 75 diners celebrated with bagpipe music and tributes to his service in the community. Acton Man Hospitalized After Highway 25 Crash
Josef Sojka of 62 Young St Acton suffered a broken back and lacerations when his northbound car left Highway 25 two miles south of 25 Sideroad, overturned into a ditch, and rolled 100 feet. Damages were $900. He was treated at Milton District Hospital then transferred to Joseph Brant Memorial. OPP investigator Larry Kneale. Another Acton resident, Peter Kroes of 44 Victoria Ave, had a separate crash on Highway 7 east of Fourth Line in Esquesing with $150 damage.

No charges after collision with Acton taxi
A 1962 Volkswagen driven north on Main Street by Manfred Hart of Willowdale collided with an Acton taxi backed from a driveway at the taxi stand. Hart said he could not swerve due to traffic. Morton, the taxi driver, said he stopped after seeing the oncoming car. No charges were laid.

Acton mayor Les Duby was elected vice chairman of the Ontario Municipal Association Town and Village Section at the Cornwall conference. He attended with Councillor Robert Drinkwalter and clerk administrator Jack McGeachie as two of three resolutions from Acton gained approval. One seeks a set annual daylight saving period for Ontario municipalities, another urges provincial action on quarry blasting regulation. Packer Here in Town Puts New Garbage Packer in Service
The town acquired a new garbage packer arriving Tuesday. It will be used for the first time next week with a holiday on Monday. The device aims to eliminate loose papers and speed collection, potentially enabling twice weekly pickups year round instead of only in warm weather. The twice weekly schedule will begin soon.

Young Yugoslavs deported after Canada bid to stay
Two 22 year old Yugoslav ship jumpers Ante Ivancev and Slavko Smolhan were deported to their homeland after seeking permission to remain in Canada while in Acton they worked at a textile firm west of town. Both were born in Croatia and had never met before boarding the Cairnavan in Montreal in December. They reported to the Immigration Department in Toronto and had hoped to stay a year to prove good faith. Their sponsor Julio Maneta of Toronto aided efforts, but authorities ordered return to Yugoslavia.
