Fire fatalities skew toward women and children in Canada
The All Canada Insurance Federation reports seven of ten fire deaths this year involve women and children. The federation notes 500 annual fire deaths in Canada with carelessness as a major cause. Last year 20 children died in fires due to lack of parental supervision. Canada experiences about 1,300 weekly fires, over 80 percent residential, at an annual fire cost near $600,000,000. It also records the Royal Montreal Golf Club as North America’s first, founded in 1873.
