Town action on Main St widening and county welfare plan
Last night council discussed widening the west side of Main Street costing 14700 with town opposition. It authorized assessor Wil liam Erskine to attend a Royal Connaught Seam convention and set expenses. Mayors and clerks may attend Tilbury Town and Village conference June 9 10 with paid expenses. Transportation pooling agreed. Halton County Assessors Association to be hosted in June. Some members to attend Y's Men civic night May 1 at the YMCA. Card and sidewalk alterations approved with Art Gordon to bear half the cost.

Recreation director H. Pearce leaves for Kingston
Recreation director Howard Pearce will leave Acton on June 2 to become assistant director of recreation in Kingston. He has been full time director since April 1966 after University of Guelph training. The city staff includes 80 in recreation, 54 in parks, 14 in arena. Replacement plans and summer program continuity are set.

Constable Nick Farion Hurt in Early Morning Crash
Constable Nick Farion, 31, of Acton, suffered critical injuries when his car struck a cement abutment on Highway 20 near Smithville at 4:20 am. He was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton with a fractured pelvis, broken jaw, left arm, and facial injuries. Corial Ray Mason and Constable Bruce McArthur visited Acton to check on his condition.

Hymn Sing program airs coast to coast in Canada
World War II veteran Herman Freuler of Acton Ontario led a number sung on Winnipeg television Hymn Sing. The program aired coast to coast Sunday afternoon, though time confusion caused many to miss it after a last minute change from 5 30 p m to 3 30 p m. The corrected time circulated via churches and word of mouth.

Third Oakville OPP constable D Cernias, a native of Herman ton, arrived last week from Posten Polytechnical Institute. Cons Pat Thwait moved to Kitchener in 1954, along with Cons Merv Harness. Simcoe native Cons Wesnites served three years in the navy. A new Oakville constable Bob Hildreth will join Acton within months, replacing Pete Campbell. May receives Bachelor of Divinity at Victoria College
John A. May, interim minister at Acton United Church, earned a Bachelor of Divinity from Victoria College, University of Toronto, at Convocation Hall on May 3. His wife attended. ordination is set for May 31 at Trinity United Church, Kitchener, with Rev. Dwight Engel assisting. May will receive preaching license on May 17 at Trinity United Church in Capreol. The couple will stay in Acton through June.

Cooke Day Blitz Drives 960 Cookies Sold by Guides
Saturday morning the Guides and Brownies held their Cook ie Day as a one day blitz. Captain Ginger led the campaign with Mrs Ginger and Mrs Lowrie planning areas and depots at several homes. By mid afternoon 960 boxes were sold and many guides and brownies sought more cookies for the cupboard.

By-law Allows Beverley Blvd Road Sale for Apartments
