Film Reveals Universal Problems From Retarded Association Meet
The North Halton Association for Retarded Children held a general meeting at Martin Street High School Milton on April 26. G G Addison presided as attendees viewed a new English film Growing Up with the Mentally Handicapped about staff shortages and overburdened care. A country house experiment formed two eight child groups with two house mothers per group, creating two families with open movement and materials. The project showed improvements in academics and social behavior, supporting home-like care. Mrs Imine Hall of Burlington spoke on research into retardation, stressing broad interest and funding now. She discussed a newborn PKU blood test, skull surgery advances and correcting skull abnormalities to prevent brain injury, and noted ongoing research into Mongolism.
