Bible Society President Henk Barens to Lead Next Year

The Canadian Bible Society annual meeting in Acton was led by Rev. W. H. Moore before about 175 attendees at Acton Pentecostal Tabernacle. Peter Binnie chaired. Murray Coles is vice president with Clarence Coles as secretary. Barens, a former president, will lead next year’s meeting at the Christian Reformed Church. The program included Bible Braille printing film, scripture readings, and contributions from local church representatives.

Busy Bees Plan Next Year at Busy Bee Institute

The Busy Bee Institute met at Mrs. D Henderson’s home Tuesday evening to plan the coming year. Good Friday services were held at St David Church Campbellville and Nassagaweya Church invited the Nassagaweva congregation to attend Easter services. Easter Sunday morning was beautiful with a larger congregation at Nassagaweyva church where Mrs Elmer Dredge sang The Stranger of Galilee and flowers adorned the service.

Davies Family Remembers Wm Davies At Funeral Service

Church services plan in memory of the late Wm Davies noted as a Davies family tribute. Early January death followed by moving to Guelph by Mr and Mrs Atkinson. Visitors listed include Jas Henderson of Port Credit with Lloyd Campbell and McIntyre families, May, and Wm McHugh of Ottawa joining Cyril Elliott and relatives for a Sunday dinner.

Acton W I Hosts Annual Euchre and Penny Sale

The Acton Women’s Institute hosted a social Friday at Luxton Memorial Hall with 16 euchre tables. Mrs. Cecil Maplesden welcomed guests and Mrs. F Anderson announced euchre prizes, with Mrs. Maplesden presenting awards to ladies’ and gents’ top players. Penny sale prizes were drawn under Mrs. George Hargrave and Mrs. K L Davidson, featuring numerous handcrafted items and gifts, followed by a celebratory lunch coordinated by Mrs. J Hardie and Mrs. Wm Denny.

Finish It Now campaign seeks $10,000 to finish centre

The Community Centre campaign board urges a renewed drive to raise an additional $10,000 to cover a $4,544.21 deficit and complete year round recreational facilities. House calls will occur in late May targeting payroll and cash donors for continued pledges and potential canvassing town wide for support.

May meeting of the Duke of Devonshire chapter hosts awards

Mrs H Elliott hosts the May meeting at her home with Mrs A Mowat presiding. May 18 is set for presenting awards to Robert Little and M Z Bennett school classrooms. Education secretary Mrs Reed bought and displayed the books.

Acton Scottish Dance Club Spring Ball Honors

Gentlemen in kilts and ladies in tartan sashes danced to Scottish reels at the Legion Hall Friday as the Acton Scottish Dance Club held its annual spring dance. The Glengarry Band of Toronto provided music for modern, square, and traditional dances. Highlights included two county dances Fergus McIver and Buckner's Wee Yin, plus birthday spot dances for Dolly Robinson and Tony Grandinger. Attendees came from Guelph MilIan Clarkson Toronto and Orangeville.
