Castle destroyed by fire at historic Ontario landmark

A century old castle at Beton thin near Belfountain, built by James McLaren after moving from Scotland, burned overnight early this month. The six year construction produced a 18 room granite residence with a 40 foot tower and secret attic meeting room for Grange gatherings. The McLaren family owned it until 1937, later used as bunkhouse, and insurance covered only 20 000 for the structure and 5 000 for furnishings with only the stone walls remainingafter the blaze.
