The largest crowd of the season packed St. Alban's Parish Hall for the last dance of the season, sponsored by Acton Square Dance club. Guests included Earl Greer formerly with the Grand Ole Opry, plus Russ Miller organizer of Royal Winter Fair square dancing champions. Callers were Don Nelson, Morris Fay, and Hugh Harris. About 115 attendees, prizes awarded, next fall dates set and hall booked.
Local Merchants Association reports no progress on obtaining over 75 percent approval for new store hours from all merchant classifications. A planned meeting was postponed as the committee preparing the hours change report was not ready. Earlier polls showed about 80 percent favored Friday night openings, yet opponents within classifications blocked the 70 percent threshold.
Sixth fire in the district in six weeks caused over $1,000 damage to Laurens Tryssenaar’s six room farm home four miles northeast of Acton. The blaze started near the kitchen stove wall thimble, spread under the roof before Erin and Rockwood firefighters arrived. Neighbors saved most of the house. only some furniture burned. The Tryssenaar family, natives of Holland, will rebuild. they are insured and living in a nearby apartment with three girls and a boy.
Mr and Mrs William Laing and their nine children were left homeless when a fast spreading frame home burned in Esquesing township five miles north of Milton. The fire, described as burning up like a match box, started on the upper floor likely from pipes or a chimney.

He left Sunday for a six months study tour of the United Kingdom.
Brownies and Guides entertained parents at an Open Night in the Scout Hall on Tuesday March 9. District Commissioner Mrs FE Wood and Area Commissioner Mrs Robert Hoey enrolled Brownie Mary Hunter and Guide Mary Lou Creighton. The program included a fairy tale performance The Story of the Brownies read by Ella Jang, with service stars for attendance awarded.
