Easter in Old Russia and the rise of a sacred shout
A historic reflection on Easter under czarist rule and after the revolution. It recalls crowded Orthodox services, candles, and bearded priests, then describes state suppression of religious celebration, the shift to political meetings, and a dramatic Easter salutation in a public hall that sparked a strong communal response. The tale underscores enduring faith despite official discouragement.
