Acton preserved its flawless record by defeating Paris 6 2 in Round 15 at home. A 9 6 scoring battle highlighted a fast pace with wide open hockey and lively play from the Tanners against the Greenshirts on a soft ice night.
Acton remained unbeaten in 19 games as the Tanners defeated Paris Greenshirts 15 8 in the OFLA playoff round two game in Paris. The home team started strong, but Acton rapidly built a 3 0 lead with goals by Lindsay Morton and Terry, then extended the advantage as Norm Morton and Gibbons assisted. Paris rallied briefly with a late first period score by England, but Acton answered with several counterattacks and penalties shifted momentum. The game showcased Acton’s depth as forwards Lindsay, Norm Morton, and Terry combined for fast breaks while Greer stood firm for Paris, keeping the outcome in Acton’s control.
Empire Tean under the Young Women's Auxiliary hosted a Tuesday evening function at Knox Church. An Empire display featured nine tables for regions including England Ireland Scotland Africa New Zealand Australia The Colonies Canada and India. The Colonies table won best exhibit and Miss Emma Johnson won a guessing prize. The program included readings piano and violin pieces vocal solos and a tea reception concluding a fine social occasion.
Titled TELLING THE NEWS Tuesday featured Missionary Night at the United Church Young People’s Union. The program showcased items from the group including prayers readings songs and a 40 voice Acton Public School choir directed by Miss T Shuint with soloists and readings by multiple students.
The Scout Mothers Auxiliary held its regular monthly meeting at the Parti Hal. President Mrs E J Haussard opened with the National Anthem. An interesting program followed with Helen and Patty singing a vocal duet and Melvin Hu presenting guitar selections. Refreshments were served and the meeting ended with The Maple Leaf.
Acton notes the death of Reverend Henry Caldwell B T S at his Inox Avenue home after long illness. A Wesleyan Theological College graduate, he served in Georgetown Lim features and Churchill and Jiangl his life. Survived by wife Elizabeth J Kitching Caldwell and four daughters Mrs Clarence Buck Miss Agnew Mrs Earl Vannutler and Mrs Archie Kerr, seven grandchildren and a brother William Charles. Funeral service to be held at the home and United Church with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
The issue prints a shoppers guide with names of Acton merchants and business men including Carrolls Grocery, Pallant Store, Willowdale Poultry Farm, Wowl’s Grocery, Gray Chickery, Gregory Theatre, L Wright Director, Puye Murrap and P L Wright among others. It notes pages where messages from merchants appear.
The first annual Seed Fair sponsored by the Acton Esquesing and Halton Agricultural Societies drew strong interest from across Halton despite poor roads. Highlights included talks by Edwin Arrop on dairy herd management and soybeans, and by J. McLeod and J. Laughland on seeds and crop practices. Awards recognized Late Oats to multiple Acton residents and other categories across oats, barley, field peas, alfalfa, and potatoes with numerous Acton, Georgetown, Milton, and Campbellville participants.
Eramosa Township council met in Rockwood March 6 with Reeve D H Storey presiding. Auditors Arch McNabb and J W Wax certified Rockwood Hydro-Electric accounts showing a $78.50 credit, $2,174.12 debt, and $76.10 consumer deposits. A by law creates seven polling sub divisions Eden Mills Poor Cornery Speed side Gustic Everton Rockwood East Rockwood West. The meeting approved readings and set 1036 voters slot, with tax seizure costs added.
The Actondale U K Y P O met at the home of Mr and Mrs Wr McCullough on Thursday evening March 5. The first part of the evening featured a dayeday followed by a short, interesting pro vent. Lunch was served and all enjoyed the gathering.
Esquesing Council accepts Leslie Campbell offer of 3000 for Debbie property west half lot 5 concession 5 Esquesing Halton. Relief to be discontinued after April 15 1936. Minutes note surplus 308.74 and multiple municipal expenditures. Regular meeting adjourned to April 13 with funds approved for road sheets and hydro bills.
The regular monthly meeting at Mr J J Stewart’s home featured a St Patrick’s social with plans for the Buster drama Rec or Rection. Miles Malsie Nicol presented a paper on St Patrick and the sisters Nicol competed in a lively costume contest, Miss Malye winning. Mrs O Parker organized a luncheon and the evening ended with a group song.
Right Rev Dr T A Moore of Toronto came home to Acton on Sunday to address his boyhood church. He recalled why he and others hold to the Book of Books and the Bible. The visit brought joy to the United Church and followed morning preaching in Guelph.
The Knox Guild weekly meeting chaired by Vice President Harvey Hupsfard featured a Walton County Musical Festival program with solos by Joyce Dessereault Dorothy Baylis Jack Bruce Reggie Spiers Marjorly Bilton Dora Hansen Gordon Gibbons and Lois Dawkins performed by the Junior Choir trained by Milks Want. A second part offered a debate on whether railways benefit Canada more than truks and buses with Miles Henderson Elken Bride Jos Hurst opposing and the affirmative favored by judges Wr Kerr K Beckett and Mrs D A MacRae. Reading by Mrs Dessereault and piano selection by Alist Arana McDonald were well received. Meeting closed with Mizpah benediction.
Announcements list various meetings and entertainments including Acton Baptist Choir and Young People's event. the Arizona Cowboy at Town Hall tonight and tomorrow. The Women’s Institute Euchre and Dance at Town Hall on Friday with 25 cent admission. St Patrick’s Supper and Concert at United Church on Tuesday March 47 with 15 and 25 cent admission. Acton Radio Club meeting tonight at 7 40 with Mr. Jordan Lawcen of Toronto addressing the club. Easter drama Resurrection at United Church Wednesday evening April 9 under Young Ladies' Friendly Circle. St Patrick's day Irish play by St Joseph’s Players with cast in roles such as Desmond family members and local figures. Will o' the Wisp described as an Irish comedy with a large committee listing names including Mrs Donahue and Mrs Kelly.
