How Much Does Farm Labor Earn
A 1964 Ontario study shows average hourly earnings of dairy farm labor at 65 cents, general farms at 95 cents, and cash crop farms at 1.62 dollars. Farmers often pay more to workers than workers earn, with the gap covered by the farmer’s own labor. Improvements in labor management, conditions, and labor-saving devices are urged, with extension offices offering help and records as first steps.
