Pte Lloyd Cutting of the 48th Highlanders, son of Mr and Mrs Walter Cutting of Acton Scene Street, aided by four comrades, led a fearless assault that cracked the Hitler Line in Italy. They pressed through 36 hours of shelling and mortars, pushing a bridgehead 3 to 400 yards deep and taking high ground near a 300 yard open plain without losing a man. They cleared three houses near the crest before Germans withdrew, killing several enemies along the way.

Acton Soldiers Return Home From Overseas Service
Acton welcomes home two soldiers invalided from overseas. Corp R S O'Hara arrived Friday from England and goes to hospital for treatment after nearly three years abroad with the Lorne Scots. Sigm a Bill Blanche reached Toronto Saturday and is in Christie Street Hospital with leg injuries after two years overseas. he is the son of Mr and Mrs R Blanche Willow Street. Both men and families look forward to healing and resuming life in Acton as they enjoy Canadian food and peacetime freedoms.

Acton Soldier Wounded Again in Italy
Mr and Mrs Hugh ORourke of Acton received word their son Private James ORourke has been seriously wounded in the abdomen while fighting in Italy. This marks a second injury after a May 22 wound, with the latest on June 18. Former Beardmore & Co employee, he joined the Highland Light Infantry in Galt and served with the Canadian Third Division.
